As home to the Albert Kahn-designed Art Deco Fisher Building, sometimes described as Detroit’s largest art object, its opulent, adjacent Fisher Theatre, and Cadillac Place, once the HQ of General Motors, New Center was originally imagined as the country’s first “edge city,” — or a secondary downtown, as its name implies.
